In the 2015-16 school year, the required annual testing for EL students changed. It went from a paper and pencil test to an online platform. This significant change had an impact on the number or students testing proficient in English that year.
During the 2016-17 school year, the testing consortium (WIDA), completed standards setting*, making it more difficult for students to test proficient and exit out of the EL program.
