How many of New Hampshire's English Learners attend school in the Manchester School District?
Manchester School District 5-Year Historic EL Enrollment Data:
During the 2017-18 academic year:

MSD experienced an 11% increase of EL enrollment due in part to following:

  • In the 2015-16 school year, the required annual testing for EL students changed. It went from a paper and pencil test to an online platform. This significant change had an impact on the number or students testing proficient in English that year.
  • During the 2016-17 school year, the testing consortium (WIDA), completed standards setting*, making it more difficult for students to test proficient and exit out of the EL program.

*To learn more about the changes to the assessments for English learners, please review the document at the bottom of this page.

English learners make up 13% of the district's overall population, but close to 30% of Manchester students report a language other than English is spoken at home.
